Spring Chamber Music Course – 15 & 17 April, 2011

We are delighted to announce that the Edinburgh Quartet are now confirmed as our tutors for next Easters course and that the course is definitely going ahead.

We still have a few places left if you can tempt anyone to join us but the closing date for applications is looming fast (30th November, 2010 if you wish to claim your £15 discount).

The course is self-catering. However, we have negotiated a deal with our local bistro Epulum. This means that this year complementary tea, coffee and shortbread will be provided on arrival on the Friday evening from 1700 and mid-morning and mid-afternoon on Saturday and Sunday, in the meeting room on site. Epulum will also be offering a buffet lunch each day included in the course fee. This will again be provided on site in the meeting room.

There will also be a sociable course dinner on site provided by Epulum at 1830 on the Saturday night. This should allow people to catch a train home at about 8pm without missing any of the fun. This year the meal will be included in the fee.

A special note about accomodation: there will be a maximum of twenty luxury, self-catering suites in The Old Court Hotel. These will be allocated to participants on a first come first served  basis and on the understanding that the occupants will invite a participating group into the suite during timetabled hours. Outside the timetabled hours the suite will be entirely theirs and private. I am expecting the suites to encorporate bedroom, kitchen and lounge areas and so hope that this will not present anyone with any difficulties or issues with privacy or security.

There is also plenty of other accomodation in Linlithgow to suite all tastes and budgets and we will be happy to assist you with booking this.

I am delighted that we are able to keep this highlight of the Scottish Musical calendar going over the next few years and I look forward to seeing you there.

Epulum Ceases Trading

We are devastated by the closure of Epulum. It was such a nice place to go for a coffee and something to eat and the staff were so friendly.

Our hearts go out to Michael and all the staff.

Professor Eds Lecture to EGTA

In August Edis gave a lecture to the European Guitar Teachers Association annual conference in Birmingham entitled “The Weird Thing About Strings Is…….”

It was about the maths and science of string vibrations and sound waves. It was very lighthearted but at the same time aimed to communicate the beauty and fascination of this subject.

If this is of interest to you you can get a flavour of the lecture at the EGTA website.

Classical Guitar Recital in Milnathort

Two members of the Chardon Ensemble - Edis Bowden and Nigel Ewan - were pleased perform a classical guitar programme for coffee morning visitors in Milnathort Community Hall last month (March 2010). A packed room applauded enthusiastically as the guitarists alternated between duets and individual pieces.

This short clip will give a flavour of the event. The crackle of the real log fire can be heard in the background which contributed to the ambience and gave everyone a warm glow - or was that the music?!
