Learn to Play The Blues in a Weekend

Experienced tutors Edis and Susan Bowden will guide you through the basics of constructing a 12 bar blues and improvising simple riffs and solos for guitar or keyboard.

By the Saturday night you should be able to enjoy a jam session with your fellow students.
By the end of the course you should be ready to go and join a band.

Who should go on this course?
Anyone with an interest in learning playing to play the blues from square one.

The course covers:

  • Chords
  • Scales
  • Licks and riffs
  • Bends, hammer-ons & pull-offs
  • Improvisation
  • Playing with backing tracks
  • Playing with other musicians

Ample opportunity is provided to try out the skills you learn in jam sessions.
The course numbers are kept small and a relaxed, sympathetic environment is created so that you feel comfortable experimenting with the things you learn.

The instructors
Edis has been playing the guitar for 35 years in bands and solo and has many years experience teaching all styles of guitar playing but the blues has always been a passion for him.

Susan Bowden has been playing piano and keyboard for 25 years and has considerable experience of teaching and performing. She sings in the prestigious Edinburgh Festival Chorus which each year provides the back bone of the Edinburgh Festivals main concert series with many of the concerts being broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and published on CD.

She also sings in the Edinburgh based choir Cadenza which gives regular concerts to critical acclaim and has recorded a number of CDs.

Accomodation
The courses are held at Cauldburn House Bed and Breakfast just outside Linlithgow.

All accomodation and meals are included.

Perched on a hill you will have uninterupted views across the Forth Valley to the Highland Hills.

Cauldburn House is situated within the grounds of a working farm which afford ample opportunity for walks and fresh air.

All rooms have television DVD player and WiFi access.
